Tara Callahan has over 11 years' experience teaching K-12 classroom music and individual music lessons in voice, guitar, piano, and ukulele. She currently serves as the Director of Choral Music at Lyons Creek Middle School in Coconut Creek, Florida and as an assistant director of the Coral Springs Children's Choir. Prior to her work in Broward County, she served as Choral Director for the Carlisle Public Schools in Carlisle, Massachusetts, where she conducted a variety of choirs for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade and taught classroom general music. There she directed the intergenerational Carlisle Community Chorus and taught private voice, guitar and piano with the Instrumental Music School of Carlisle and Concord. Ms. Callahan has also taught chorus and music theory at Dedham High School in Dedham, Massachusetts and elementary general music in Central Florida.
Ms. Callahan holds Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education degrees from the Florida State University College of Music in Tallahassee. She studied voice with Christina Villaverde, Larry Gerber, Janice Harsanyi and Roy Delp, and conducting and choral methods with Judy Bowers, Kevin Fenton, Andre Thomas, and Kimberly Van Weelden. Ms. Callahan is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the American Choral Directors Association, and the Florida Music Educators Association. She is a former member of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association’s Eastern District executive board.
